Hi all,
After a few long weeks (in some pretty terrible weather I might add), our coop is finally finished :) We have started with Golden Comets, we currently have 8 hens and 1 rooster. The rooster seems to be doing his job and caring for his flock. We are so excited.

I have just ordered 3 more baby comets and 2 ducklings -welsh harlequins which we are supposed to get in in March. So it seems like we have a good 3 weeks to figure out our brooding situation which I keep bouncing back and forth on. I have heard both pros and cons of brooding them together and it seem like the biggest of my hurdles will be to try keeping it dry enough for the chickens so that they do not get sick....

If any one had any suggestions on a brooder that would be great, pics would be helpful. But I am kind of leaning away from a rubbermaid container.

Any ideas??

I have never brooded ducklings and chicken chicks together, so I can't help you there. You might want to post this question in the duck section here on BYC just in case. :)

Here is a link to our homemade brooders page. Maybe you can get some ideas here...

Good luck in all your poultry adventures and enjoy BYC!

When it gets daylight here I will take a few pics of my brooder and send them to you, I have had great success with it and am very happy with it so far, its been a good starter brooder for me to use until I build what I want (which idk what that is yet but I have gotten a few ideas from this first one I built)
if I don't post something by this afternoon remind me and ill make sure and get it done....
