First Timer: In Need of Showing/Breeding Tips

I m not from the US .
I m a member of the French marans breeding Syndicat .So I know my marans very ,very ,very well and deed .

where you show is not important ,what important is who you are showing against and who is the Judge !!!!!!!!!!!

The difference between the US SOP and the French SOP is so small .
the tail is one of them . in the US they call for a short open structured tail
the Original French call for a thin ,short and closed
any way none of this tail type is a disqualify . just losing point by any standard .

I agree, the judge and who you show against is important. The tail can be important if the other birds shown are more complete, and have a proper tail. I am guessing the poster is a junior, but there are some nice Black Copper Marans being shown in the open division here. I think it is a disservice to tell anyone a bird is faultless. I think it is better to discuss pros and cons, and tell one how to breed to improve. You told the poster his bird would score 98 points out of 100. That will not be the score when he shows the bird. According to you, this bird would be unbeatable. That is getting the poster's hopes up. Once the bird matures, it can be shown, and can be compared to other birds. No offense to the poster, it looks average for the birds in the US.

Marans are a French chooks breed and they have they proper original standard .
I grow up with a marans .not just from reading some body s standard .
been breeding marans chooks to the french standard with my mom in the 70/80th . so I know them more than you think .
we are talking about chooks not US and AUS

SEE YOU LATER .HAVE OTHER THINGS TO DO .

I am aware that Marans are a French breed. I am aware that the French have a standard for Marans. The French have standards for many otger breeds as well. So does the US. If the poster wants to show in the US, he needs to show according to the US standard, no matter where a breed originates. I was unaware that Australian judges judged American shows, according to the Australian standard. Maybe the poster can show at those shows.

Sorry, the head's blurry...

Is this the same pullet? The tail looks ok, but still growing in. Still tough to tell. Bird looks wider. Hard to tell about hackle color. I am not saying don't show her. I think she should do well, depending on what else is being shown. I would not go as far as faultless. No bird is faultless. We just try to get as lose to faultless as we can. Also, be wary of people that say their birds meet the standard. The Standard is not pin point specific, but no bird is a 100 point bird.

Tough to tell. Needs more feathering on shanks and toes for sure. Could be lighting, but possibly light in hackles. Chest does not look right, but could be angle, and age.

His chest does not look full. Does not give the proper sillohet. As i said, he could be young, and not filled out yet. It appears his hackle color is light. He also has shafting in his hackles.
