First Timer Looking For Hatch Buddy!

Quote:
I just hatched some b/b/s Ameraucana eggs, and they are some of the CUTEST chicks you'll ever see.

I don't have anything in the 'bator, but this is a fabulous thread you started, Ooopsy, so I can't resist following along. I don't think I've seen this kind of camaraderie on a hatching thread before!

Good Morning Everyone!

I think if Ive counted right, we have 15 on board for hatching from 1 wk to 20 days and both chickens and duck. Boy this is gonna be fun, I cannot wait to see all the pictures come in and I might just set up a webcam to host on my server once mine start hatching. This is better than waking up christmas morning to see what santa left.

Suzpyoung: Please post some pictures of the new babies

Well my eggs don't smell boiled. So thre's a bigger chance they will hatch.

Oh, me too Ooopsy! My Buff Orp hen turned 1 yr. old in April and I've been watching and waiting so patiently for her to go broody.

While I was doing that my Black Austrolorp went broody and quit 2 times. Then the BO finally went broody for a couple of days and then she quit on me too!

So I gave up on them ever doing it.

On August 2nd I found my Pekin setting on one egg so I stopped collecting them. She then layed 12 eggs and stopped laying. She has sat on them the whole time since the 2nd.

So I'm thinking she could start hatching anytime. She just finished her 4th full week so this coming weekend will be her 28 days in there somewhere. The first egg's 28 days was up on Saturday the 29th, yesterday.

I'm trying not to stay glued to her, but it's really hard not to! Her man is doing a fine job of staying close and guarding all of them.

Congrats! Gloria As soon as those lil babies are hatched, post up some pictures for us.

I was so upset this morning tho, I woke up around 5am and went out to the hay barn where I have 52 Vantress X's and 42 Colored Range birds (all meaties) and here one of the troughts heat lamp was out. They were all huddled together as its on in the 50's here today and they are just 3 wks old. I just bought that lamp 4 days ago when I seperated half of the Vantress X's as they are so huge and needed more space. Those bulbs are $6 each and to last a few days??? Grrrr so Im gonna take it back to TSC here shortly and see if they are gonna replace it? So Im moving the other lamp from one trought to the next and covering up the other with PVC board. Gosh that stuff comes in handy for lots of things.

I sure hope nobody catches a cold! I better buy a couple back-up bulbs with this weather getting so cold already.

ok is it lockdown yet?? LOL ok ok i know for me its only day 2 but im going CRAZY!! lol 5 days and i can candle!! lol then ill be gone for the week! YAY! hehe i wont be tempted to open the bator then!

I've got the bator at 56 degrees humidity on day 2... is that too low?

Since it's my first time, I listened to the Hova-bator 1588 instructions, which says to leave temp as pre-set (100%), which it looks like it's holding. Is this ok? Will the 1/2 degrees make a difference?

I'm afraid if I fiddle too much with it now it'll screw it up even more.

Are you dry hatching? Or you have someone to add water for you while your gone?

Daughter told me to candle at day 7, but I think I'll sneak and candle them monday (day 5) LOL I feel almost like I did when I started smoking as a teen and was sneaking around da place HA!

From what Ive been reading everywhere 99.5-100 degrees F is ideal. My Little Giant is always between the two so Im not to worried. Daughter even had her's spike in that really hot weather to 103 and still hatched 9 keets and 2 turkeys.

Oh good...I guess I'm being a nut then.

I soooo want to candle to see if I can see veins...is it too early on day 2? Will it ruin anything?
