First Timer Looking For Hatch Buddy!

CarrieHelene
I got a still air bator and tried it out for 3 whole days before I installed me fan in it. The whole time it was on 99.5...perfect. now that i've put the fan in, i always have to check it. as soon as i think it's fine on 99.5 it will go up after about 20 minutes to 99.8 one time it was on 98.6 (i have a digital thermometer) i turned it up just a HAIR and got in the shower, when i got out, checked it 99.1 left it. i cooked dinner thinking it was fine i came back just to check it agian it was on 101.3! so my bator is like that too. you can never take your eyes off it for long. in fact i'm actually going to check mine now. You just have to watch it like a hawk!

And the waiting is driving me silly as well! last week was the slowest week of my life.
and i have 2 left to go. If my bator just stays where it is right now 99.5-99.6 i'll be happy:fl

Stazia, It was holding it's temps fine (I think), but I kept reading about the problems the LG was having with the temps, and how alot of people solved the problem by converting it to forced air. Now it's all over the place. I almost got the Genesis too, but this was half the price, since I don't plan on hatching often, I figured this would be better. Kicking myself now, that's for sure. I'm debating yet whether I want to just unplug the fan or not. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I knew for sure whether the temp problems are caused by the fan or not.

Good luck with your hatch. Keep us updated.

Well I think what the problem is and the main reason I put my bator in my milkhouse/shop is because in my home the temp goes up and down as the weather does. Hot/cold/damp etc.

My milk house in cinder block and under huge pine trees and the temp in the never really changes. I said to daughter, so she put her bator now in the basement and her's has a fan and the temps stay constant.

Maybe if you have a basement or room that stays aprox the same temp all the time, you might be able to adjust it to sit still??? Im stays from 99.5-100 constant.

Just a thought, as Im new to this just like everyone else.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day??

I just got done with a smaller hatch so I'm glad I have a break before the big hatch dates again.

I'm having absolutelty no problems with my temp. It's as if the incubator is working perfectly and willing these eggs to be fertile so that it has a good hatching record.Nothing within the range of 97-102 will seirously affect the chick.Below 97 will cause really late hatches, and above 102 can fry the egg:P

I'm gonna take everyones advice & leave the bator with the turken eggs alone, except for water of course. i'll check on them after another week.

i have to turn the others daily though, so i have to open the hovabator a couple times a day. but so far the temp & humidity have been totally stable

:weee:ya

apparently all that tape & foam did better than i thought it would

the lid fits much more snuggly now, so less space for temp/humidity 'leakage'.

Yeah hubby does feel stink

and it was viable

but at least we got to see inside one of our eggs, and we now know for sure that they're growing

We took two of the store bought eggs out of the bator last night too, candled them and couldn't see anything.
So we broke them open, I could've sworn they looked fertile, but no development?

So we left the rest in and will candle later

Waiting doing my head in too

Do you have 2 or 3 different bators set up cuz of so many hatch dates? Ive wondered about doing that. As Ive read that the bacteria from when they hatch can/does harm the other eggs to hatch at another date.

I was just wondering-what should I see in a four day old developing egg?I'm so impaitent (and worried these eggs won't hatch:(,)I need to candle:P

LOL Fluffy, I just posted a question about what I saw when I candled today. I couldn't help myself either.

Kiwi, I'm so sorry to hear about your little egg you lost

Well, here's my update for the day. I still had alot of problems with the temp fluctuating, so around 1 am I unplugged that darn fan, got the temp readjusted, and it's been holding steady around 99.5-100.4 ever since. Lesson learned from this if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Like I said, I candled two eggs today. The brown one from my flock I couldn't see diddly squat in, to dark to see anything, guess I need a stronger light. The shipped banty cochin egg, which is light colored, I couldn't see any veining, just a dark shadow which I'm assuming is the yolk. I'm going to wait until day 7 to candle, then again around day 10. If I don't see anything then, I'll pretty much assume that they got fried with my 113 temp spike, and are inviable.

Another lesson learned with this first hatching expirement, don't go by memory when ordering eggs, because the chickens you want might be sumatra's, and the chickens you order by relying on memory might be serama's
