I just set in my genesis 1588
12- barred rocks
6 Buff orpingtons
12 silkies

Put them in around 7:30. Had the incubator running for 2 days to test it out before I put the eggs in and the eggs all sat 24 hours since they were shipped. It said not to change the pre set temp for chicken eggs but after putting the eggs in right now I have humidity of 48% and temp of 96.9. If it doesn't raise by tomorrow should I change it? It says to trust the machine more then the thermometer.

Also if you have the genesis with auto egg turner how do add water without removing the eggs every couple days. and I start counting my days to lockdown as of tomorrow right? not tonight?

Please help me to have the best hatch rate I can! any advice is welcome!!

I have a bad feeling none will hatch but I'm hoping I am surprised

thank you!!

That's exactly how I felt for my first hatch. And my second. And my third. And still. I am just positive I will do something wrong and they won't develop, or I'll kill the chicks in the eggs, or something awful. But my first hatch was 6 of 7, the second was the same, and the third was 5 of 18. The way *I* look at it, ANY egg that hatches is wonderful, and if two or more hatch, it's absolutely FANTASTIC!

Good luck!!

I don't use the same type of incubator, but the humidity is perfect. You're close to the right temp for a forced air incubator (one with a fan, not a still air 'bator) so you can see the temp has been rising naturally over a period of time after you set the eggs.

jesschickens, i have the hovabator 1588 too, with the turner. im wondering how to add water too, i was thinking of rigging up a little piece of hose thru it into the tray so i could use a syringe (spelling?) and add water like that. im going to poke at it tom. im setting eggs tomorrow night, its running now my temp is 99 on one therm and 100 on the other, so im fine with that, but my humidity is 57, so thats too high. i added water from the start in all sections of the tray, then took some out, but the humidity is stil high. did you add water to yours at first? how much?

Oh wow! I'm a first timer and set my eggs at 7:30 tonight too

Here's what I set:
12 Buff Orpingtons
6 Blue Orpingtons
8 Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas
16 French Black Copper Marans

My temp is about 99.5-100 right now. Humidity is off, but I think it's due to my hydrometers. One of my hydrometers is reading 55% and the other 60%... and that is after collaborating them. I'm going to purchase one from Petco tomorrow.

Goodluck to you! I'm interested to see how yours turn out!

I'm having similar issues. I have the HovaBatore 1506N though. I barely filled the first trough with water and I'm still getting a high reading. I'm going to buy a different hydrometer tomorrow and see if that helps...

I thought of getting a fish tank tube and syringe tomorrow also so we will see. As for the humidity im at 48% right now with just the middle filled. I filled the middle right from the start and only plan to fill the outside during lock down.
