Thanks! I purchased some All Flock today. I'll use that until they start laying, like you mentioned.Hello and welcome to BYC! So happy you joined our community. I feed the starter grower until they are feathered out and that usually is around the time the original bag runs out. After that I feed "All Flock." I stopped using layer feed because it's really meant for birds that are actively laying. Too much calcium is not the best for non-laying birds. I also keep a cup of oyster shell available for those that need it. Best of luck with your wee flock.
You can never post too many pics!A couple more pics from today.
Definitely do Not leave the coop door unsecured at night. You will need the security of hardware cloth if you ever plan to leave the door open.Update: more pics! My husband built a coop and run for our chicks! We still need to add some roosts in the run, but they're liking it! They're big now and in it for good.
I'll look through the forum for answers too, but do I need to close them in the coop at night or can I leave their door to the run open?
Also, is my beautiful guy a barred rock or cucko muran? I thought Barred Rock, but someone on here mentioned Cucko Muran and now I'm not sure which! My daughter named him Dotty.
We're in love with these chickens!! They all have names - Dotty, Popcorn, Pot, Astrid, Willow, Runner, Marron, and Roxy.
Thanks! That makes sense! I'll be closing it for safety.Definitely do Not leave the coop door unsecured at night. You will need the security of hardware cloth if you ever plan to leave the door open.
Best of luck!
