Yeah me too. I have had a rooster attack me before.....I guess thats why I don't plan on getting any soon.

Here is a tip: DO NOT GET SILKIES!!!

Ask PurpleChicken, he can tell you all about the Silkies and their evil mind-powers. I have some in the bator that are nowhere close to hatching time and I can already feel their power.

That was a terrible mistake [IMG] [IMG]

Hi, welcome to BYC. I have three roosters, a Barred Rock, a Blue Orpington and a black Ameraucana. All of them are sweethearts and easily handled, so roosters are not necessarily scary creatures.

Welcome to BYC. You will need to get your fear of the rooster under wraps. Don't let him know about it. Remember you are head chicken and therefore the boss! [IMG] Just like any other pet you may have or may have had.

Welcome to BYC! I have several roosters right now, and they're not mean. I have had several mean ones, though, and the best thing to do is show them who's boss-don't back down.
Also, if you want a rooster but don't want to risk a mean one, get a rooster from a skittish breed such as a leghorn or hamburg.

There are SO MANY great tips here, you can probably spend days if not weeks going through them all. I too am new and everything I know about chickens has come from this site. I'm having a great time and I'm just counting the days until spring...more chickens!!! But only a couple cause I don't have the room! [IMG]

Thank You Everyone. I dont know what kind I am getting yet. But as of right now my dad's friend wants to down size and he is giving me some... Then I was looking at the Silkies. I would like to get some of those maybe in the spring. What is so bad about them?

Silkies are sweet and cute. They just like to go broody every other week!! If you don't plan on hatching in the future, you might want to rethink that.... but I still love mine!! Love their personalities. Welcome...you'll love all the advice and tips you get on this board.
