I actually found that bulls eye info before posting Good idea - I have been eating the pullet eggs and don't recall seeing anything unusual about them (bulls eye.. etc.) The rooster has been mounting the 2 hens for about 6 weeks now - but the hens just starting laying not too long ago. The rooster and the hens are all about 6 months old.

you will see a white spot in the yellow yolk when you crack it open this is called the blastoderm if its all white or no dot in middle then it's infertile if it looks like a bullseye dot in center of circle then your're good to go! )

I know I never had paid attention to it untill I picked out my dud eggs last hatch and looked up how to know if fertile or not! plus I had one cracked egg that i opened just to see if it was fertile and it was so then i knew the difference!

So - my question is this - how do I know if the egg is fertile WITHOUT breaking it open - or is it just a chance you take when putting the eggs in? (I've collected 6 so far.. going to get 15)

Just a chance you take. Aprox. by day 7 you should start to see veins and a little black dot when you candle the egg. If the egg appears to be transparent then it's most likely infertile.
