Hello, all! I live about half an hour south of Boston, MA. My husband's aunt raises chickens and our 12YO daughter desperately wanted some of her own, so we purchased a used coop and run (built by an engineer in his spare time), moved them to our house from a few towns over (NOT FUN, as the coop must easily weigh at least 600 lbs!), and ordered 9 chicks at the end of August from a hatchery (Chickens for Backyards). They sent us 13! One died a few days later, but the other 12 thrived. Two started crowing at about 8 weeks and had to be rehomed (as we can't keep roosters per city law), so we're left with 10 now. My best friend told me she's incredibly impressed with how much I've learned about chickens. Much of it came from this forum, so I decided to join! Looking forward to learning more every day.

Welcome to BackYard Chickens. Thank's for sharing the picture's thats a Nice Chicken Coop ! And a Big Hello from Eastern Nebraska !
Thank you! It is built incredibly well, but it was a BEAR getting it up a tiny hill in our backyard...had to use a come-along strap wrapped around a huge tree, and it took forever! All worth it in the end, though. We have also rebuilt the 8' x 11' run to the right of the coop since then, and the city animal inspector said, "Wow...you could keep an eagle in here!" :yesss:
