First try at incubating

Day 21 and 2 pips so far. Both buff polish eggs. Really hoping my silkie/showgirl eggs hatch.

Wish I had a hen old enough to be broody:(.

I have 2 buff polish hatched and pips on 3 silkie/showgirl, 3 golden laced polish and 1 cochin egg moving around. 9 out of 15 so far. Post pics a lil later.

I see you have yours in egg cartons..so, i can incubate by eggs in the incubator like this? Mine roll around so much on the wire tray in there now.

Always exciting come hatch day!! I'm rooting for the little babies!

wskline, you can incubate in egg cartons. I do it all the time. What I do for a more even heat distribution is cut holes in the bottom for the heated air to flow nicely throughout the carton. Some people will even hatch the eggs out in the carton. I guess it works, I haven't done this personally, because I worry about the what if's of chicks pipping at the wrong ends. So I end up taking all of the eggs out of the cartons on lockdown and let them lay on their sides then.

Thank you Aacre. I will be so happy if just 1 hatches. I'm new at this so it may be trial and error till I get it right with the incubating. I have 5 eggs that I see movement in. I've watched videos on candling and what to look for. Even found the death ring and pulled it and cracked open and sure enough. I have a big egg that we call the golden egg. Saw somewhere that they are twins and when I candled, could see 2 masses. Definitely a golden egg. lol

Yes, I have a "golden egg" too! I'm curious to see how it turns out. I don't have a strong enough flashlight right now, so my hatch is a mystery this time! I've ready that it's rare for both embryos (of twins in golden eggs) to survive.. It does happen, I bet though! I'd love to be kept updated about that one! :) Good luck and happy hatching!

I have decided not to candle at all this time. I think the handling of the eggs affected my last hatch.

Well, I'm trying to stay positive with the golden egg but couple days ago when I looked, it almost looked like the one had that ring of death so I may have lost that one but the other looked fine. I saw a utube video of twins hatching. The lady was helping them along but they were healthy. I will keep you updated on my golden egg. Good luck to you also.

Lizz9931, I was worried about candling too much. I keep wanting to check them but know probably better to just wait.
