Firsthand Raccoon Experience

Thanks for the info. Just wanted to share that not all raccoons give a hoot about chickens. I've had one living in the upstairs of our old bank barn, just a few old timbers away from the chickens living in the downstairs of the old bank barn. Figured it was just a matter of time. But nope. I think she's raised two families since we've been here, and we've never, touch wood, lost a single chicken. Course, the neighbour grows corn.

Very interesting. Obviously in Australia we don't have raccoons, but we have other predators which I view through the squinted eye of suspicion, but which mostly have not even tried to take poultry despite the common beliefs about them being poultry-thieves. Pays to have an open mind I guess.
