Fish amoxicillin

I have a bantam hen named BunBuns shes around 2 pounds maybe 3 she has a bad respiratory infection she is coughing and is really crackling when she breathes,it seems shes having trouble breathing I have 250mg of fish Amoxicillin can I give her this? And if so what is the dosage pls

The dose for amoxicillin is 57mg per pound, or 125mg/kg, given twice a day orally (PO). Two pills can be thoroughly mixed in with 10ml of sterile water, and you will be left with a liquid solution that contains 50mg per ml. The powder won't dissolve very well so it's important you shake the solution during the whole process to distribute the powder as evenly as possible.

A two-pound hen, for example, would get around 2.3ml of the mixture. It's preferred you get an actual weight off her instead of guessing.

Could you post a video of her breathing? How do you know its a respiratory infection? Is there any eye, or nasal discharge occurring? Any sneezing?

Have you added any birds to you're flock recently or visited other fowl recently? Have you checked in their mouth for any lesions? How do their crops feel? What's the approximate temperature in the coop?

Respiratory diseases have become a serious problem with chickens. There are several that can affect chickens, but, in most cases, its either Coryza, (MG) mycoplasma gallisectum, or Infectious bronchitis (IB). If you have a vet that does poultry in your area, you should be able to get antibiotics from there, but if that's not an option there are several that can be purchased online such as Tylan power, Duramycin powder, and some other fluoroquinolones type antibiotics. If it is respiratory disease-related, these will work better then the amoxicillin.

It should be understood that with most respiratory diseases, antibiotics only relieve the problem, birds are usually carriers for life. During times of stress, symptoms may reappear.

Since, dust and ammonia can have negative effects on their respiratory system, keeping the coop clean, and ensuring there is adequate ventilation may help the problem.

Thank you so much. I called the Vet today and he is given me some power antibiotics to put in their water, I had a hen last year to do the same thing and I took her to the Vet and it was respiratory the Vet gave me baytril for her after a few days she was better I'm not sure what kind of antibiotics the Vet is given me but I gotta go pick it up tomm Lord willing. I had tried VetRx on them for a few days but it just didn't work I will let you no tomm what antibiotics is it though and ty so much for your help.

It’s good that your vet is giving you some antibiotics for the water. Amoxicillin is not the best for respiratory diseases since mycoplasma, one of the common ones, does not have a cell wall. So tylosin, oxytetracycline, doxycycline, Denagard, or Baytril are better choices for bacterial diseases. Some are caused by viruses as well, not responding to antibiotics, and would run there course over rime.

I went to the barn early this morning and I have turkeys at the barn i noticed one of the younger ones is coughing also i haven't been to the Vet yet they don't open to 10am this morning but I'm going to take a baby with me and let him look at her.i have all of them on Medicaid feed and i ckean their waters often i just hope its nothing to serious

Just got back from the Vet he gave me this medication and said add 2 tablespoons into 1 gal water and let it be the only water source has anyone ever heard of this medicine before because I've never used it but I'm sure the vet knows what he's doing,I read on that package not to use on laying hens all the birds are together but the free range also, So will this medication hurt the laying hens??
