Fish breeding!

Beautiful Bettas.

I have never bred freshwater fish, but I used to breed seahorses back in the day.

I used to breed orandas and lionheads back in the early and mid 1990s. Your fish are gorgeous! The longest I ever had an oranda was 6 years & she was still swimming strong when I sold that tank (got divorced, sold all the tanks and split the money because that was the only way he wasn't going to take them all and he had already let 2 tankfuls of cichlids die after I moved out). I did see the lady I sold that tank to a couple of years later & she still had the oranda, who at that time had to have been about 9 years old. She said she had gotten too big for the tank and was living in a pond outside and weighed about 3 pounds! :O

I knew of one breeder in Merced years ago who had a 15-year-old oranda in one of his outdoor ponds.

Hmmm... (she looks around her house for a place to put a fish tank and realizes Farmer Lew will kill her if she brings one more animal into this tiny little crackerbox-house...)

i would absolutly love to breed this guy which was why i got the pearlscale but of coarse that turned out to be a male too so since ive got awsome filters on the tank im going to get another little goldie and pray its a female lol i love getting them when they are small becuase then you can watch them grow!
i call that big oranda a "miracle fish since he really should not be alive he was really my very first fish ever ever sure i had goldfish as a kid but i never cared for them my mom did and they usually died becuase we had no idea fish even needed air stones O.O but i got this guy and had him in a 20 gallon untill this past year when i moved him into the 80 but so far hes gotten himself stuck in a castle and ripped off most of his scales-3 tmes
scewerd himself thru the mouth and out the gills on a fake plant-2 times
got caught and tore his tail-too many times to count
got squashed under a 4 pound rock and i thought he was dead becuase i litterly had to pop his body out from the sand with the net he litterly buried himself under the rock.
and yes he came from wal-mart! and is still doing very well

I love Bettas but they die after about 6 months in our community tank. We are reluctant to get another because we love the sweet and cute personalities and are sad when they die
