The have a good selection there...but since we live in Florida and have so many aquarium stores eventally one will turn up here where I can eye-ball it and pick it if I think it's good and healthy looking. The can be tricky to switch to prepared (non-live) food. I'm looking for a pretty big one (as far as this type of eel goes) of at least 22". The bigger they are (for this eel) the easier they are to acclimate.

I have a smaller (my old 37 gal) set up so I can use it as an acclimating tank - coaxing it to first eat ghost schrimp, then thawed krill on a skewer, and finally on to freeze dried krill. It usually takes about 3-4 months.

This is a great thread! I can't wait to see what else comes up here!

Post more pictures! I need inspiration. I've had fish off and on for close to 40 years - saltwater, community freshwater and cichlids, but I've been aquarium-less for several years now. I bought this little cutie a couple of months ago. I swear she put on the puppy dog eyes and begged me to buy her. I've never had a female betta, but she has so much personality!

It was totally an impulse buy. I went in Petco to buy dog food and came out with a fish. I have her in my daughter's old 5 gallon minibow tank, but I've just pulled down a 15 gallon tank from the attic and I'm ready to set it up and get more fish. If I had a spot for a bigger tank I would go for it, but I really have no where to put anything bigger.

I've also gotten two more bettas since then. A male and female crowntail that I wanted to breed, but they are not cooperating.

Oh well, they're still pretty to look at. I may try to put the two females together in the 15 gallon when I get it set up.

Hey Nice Bettas!
I have a few questions...
I will have an empty 5 and 10 gallon tank soon...IF i had a male in the five, and divided the 10 into 10 one gallon spaces, could i breed them and have 10 bettas? Or divided it in 5 if thats too small and have 5 bettas...... What do you think and how would i go about buying it so the babies dont slip through the netting?

Female bettas can be housed together, so you really wouldnt have to spilt up the tank for them.
It is a good idea to allow about 2 gallons per each female betta in a tank, so in a 10 gallon, you can have 5 females.

I don't have these in my tank, but had TONS in a Department of Environmental Protection tank that ran for them.

They're wild around here. Brackishwater sailfin mollies. Looked them up online, $2-$5/ea

my area you go out with a decent sized dip net you get ten. I get hundreds with a cast net I got.

btw, the DEP had twin 200 gallon tanks, and a 50 gallon turtle tank with Diamond Back Terrapins (NA's only saltwater turtle). The fish tanks were set up different, one had "large fish" other was small community fish. All caught in the area. The large fish had 1 bluegill, 2 warmouths, and a large mouth bass (halfway through the year I worked there the bass ate both warmouths cause he didn't want to wait a couple hours to eat. Both were about as big as him too!). The small fish varied on what died, and what was eaten, but normally had thse mollies, diamond killifish, marsh killifish, gulf killifish, Gambusia, a large pleco, florida gar at one point, a long nose gar right after the florida died, a brown bullhead catfish, a yellow bullhead catfish, flagfish, and Sheepshead minnows.

Yep nearby. I do know there is a really nice Saltwater store in Lakeland (I think that's where it is). My dad eyeballed it out, he's the one who got me into aquariums, although he hasn't done anything with any for a long time.

They just put one in just a few streets away, I'm autoless, else I'd spend time there checking it out. Maybe even see if they want some employees lol.
