Hi all, been browsing here for a couple of months now and its time for my first post. I live near a river where we can catch a lot of suckers and redhorses. If I am correct, fish is very high in protein, but I am scared to hurt our birds. Is it safe to let them eat raw fish? and will the scales hurt them or plug up their craw? I like to fish and thought this might be a real treat for them.

i tried to give my girls a whole fish. they found it scarey and at first jumped when they met eye to eye. and then they all just avoided it.

but, they did enjoy the leftovers and picked the bones cleaned.

i skim out the duckweed and pond "stuff" and they love it. tadpoles are eaten whole, crawdads are prized and chased for...and all the other little bugs are eaten quickly along with the duckweed.

I had figured to cut it in sections to make it easier for them. eagles and other birds eat fish, but I'm not sure about the scales plugging them up. what kind of fish did you try?

smaller size bass. i think if you did cut it up , it would be easier for them. i just think they eye freaked them out.

i am not sure about the scales.
