I am very impressed. You caught a fox in a trap. Foxes are our main predator here and they have evaded every trap we have set out.I have caught raccoons skunks and even a smaller fox in one
Have you ever used live mice?I have trapped a fair number of fisher and marten in Northern MN. They are highly intelligent, but also highly curious. They are prone to enter tunnels and hollow logs. They climb very well, even up plywood. The most common methods of trapping are either cubby sets or pole sets. The cubby is most applicable to live trapping. Camouflage your cage trap with wadded up grass. The idea is to make it look like a natural burrow through the weeds like a rabbit tunnel. The end must be open, they don't like blind holes. Bait it with fresh, bloody meat. I trapped muskrat at the same time, so I always had that, but some bits of fresh road kill or a freshly squashed mouse should work well also. Add a lure to the set. Commercial fisher/martin/mink lure... musk based... is what to use. I prefer the house brand of Minnesota Trapline Products. They are also sight oriented hunters. A feather with some down and a chip of tinfoil hanging from a string at the edge of the cubby will help.
Omg!!! Just heard trap go off and an animal scream. All excited I go check only to see the trap has vanished!!!!! What the hell would walk off with it lol
I will have to look at daylight for it. The woods are silent and chickens are safe!!!!
