Fishy tasting eggs

This has just become an issue. After a bit of research, it's probably a combination of their genetics and definitely their feed - Layena Omega-3's - which has flaxseed as the source of Omega-3's. My question is how long might it take after changing their diet will it be before the girls' eggs start tasting normal again? I know there's something of an assembly line going on and I'd hate to have to toss their eggs for the next month or six weeks.

Egg flavor is largely from feed. Yes, I think the flaxseed would be the culprit of fishy tasting eggs.

I should think in a week, two at most, you should see improvement. Maybe use the eggs in omelets with garlic to off set the flavor? They definitely are safe, so I wouldn't toss.

I use Layena Omega and have never had a problem with fishy-tasting eggs. Flax seed isn’t fishy. 🤔 The only thing I can think of is if you got an old bag that might have some rancidity, then maybe it was fishy?

Sounds gross, but you might wanna actually taste their feed? Just a teensy taste. I had read that someone’s processed chicken meat tasted “off”, and turns out it tasted like the feed they had gotten. I then tasted my chicken’s food (just a teeny bit) to make sure it was alright because I was going to butcher some extra cockerels and did not want to waste their lives because of “off” tasting food!

As an aside, if you don’t want to eat the eggs that taste fishy, if you know someone with pigs, the pigs would love them and they wouldn’t go to waste … :D

I tossed them. Three dozen eggs. There is no way we were going to eat these. Got a different feed (Dumor, I've used it before with no issues.) Bought some eggs from the grocery to tide us over, in the meantime I'll boil an egg (we're only getting one or two a day right now,) every day to see exactly how long it takes to get this out of their systems.

This may be breed specific. I have one legbar with 3 legbar crosses. Unfortunately I can't tell whose egg is whose as they're almost identical in color, shape and size or I could compare between the legbar and the crosses.

I’m sure you’re talking chicken vs duck but we don’t care for the taste of our ducks’ eggs. They spend a significant amount of time at our pond eating crawdads and minnows (they have their own duck pellets too) and the eggs definitely taste fishy

Just FYI. It apparently takes just about a week after changing feed. This morning's offering might have had a very slight fishiness to it, but not so you'd notice unless you were specifically looking for it. Certainly nowhere close to what it was. They're starting to molt now anyway so I was going to be buying eggs for a while in any case.
