Will a bird that’s laying her first egg find her nesting box? Or do they even understand what’s happening with their first egg?

Some of it is instinctual. If you've got your nest boxes ready, and place some fake eggs in there, you've got good chances of them laying in the nest box

Sometimes they will use the nests right away, sometimes it can take a few days. Have you seen any evidence of them messing around/playing in the nests?

Yes I have. I’ve seen some poop from time to time. And I do have them ready snd available with some fake eggs. I have 7 Easter eggers that are 23 weeks old, (My first chickens). They haven’t started laying yet. They will any time I hope. Thanks for your help.
