That's the way I 'fix' my birds curled toes. If their really bad, like the peachick you had the other day, I usually just cull.
I've too, like @R2elk have had birds with 'clubed' toes and the had no problems getting around or breeding. Eventhough, it was a defect from hatching he would on an occasion throw a chick with the same side leg being 'clubed'. I too, removed it from my breeding stock and the problem went away. So it's difficult to say if it was from hatching problems or genetics.
