Fixing Florus, neck injury from fighting...

Florus is in a pen in the garage now. He's been poultry drenched, aspirin, and now just to keep him getting better. He has no roost, I don't want him jumping up if at all possible, mostly I don't want him to fall... The garage is warm so...

Florus is beautiful, I expected him to be stooped over. From the looks of him on the video I think he is on the road to recovery. Maybe he is a bit stiff because it hurts. I always thought when a rooster can and does crow - he is feelin' his oats.

I went out to the garage and found Florus GONE. Not kidding. Went to go and find him, thinking he might be in some trouble. I found him in his pen with his ladies... I have a vid of that. I guess I can just leave them confined in their coop and run for the time being. Keep dosing him with drench, vits, selenium and e. I was hoping that with him the garage, and it being warm, he'd be comfortable. There are other birds in the garage. I haven't figured out where he managed to free himself from though...

Aside from the crooked head, yeah. He's normal.

I was so upset when I found him last night. I was sure I would have a dead rooster in the morning. If I had had batteries last night, I would have video taped him then. It's hard to explain how different he looked last night. I mean, imagine your perfectly normal roo with his head stuck down, and almost facing backwards... Maybe I freaked more than I needed, but I was very upset when I found him like that under the broody roost on his side with his face staring up and crooked... I threatened RBahmer that I was going to go and steal his brother back from her if he needed to be put down.

Florus is back in the garage. hi found him walking in circle, head down, cocked to the side, almost up upside down... He got out of his pen. I don't know how. I think maybe from when I cleaned the run out, he is able to push under the fence that's plastic that I use to walk through... Gah! I have to work inthe morning, so I have to get up extra early to give him another dose of vits.

Oh gosh, when I logged in just the first sentence of the post "I went out to the garage and found Florus GONE." I almost choked. I thought you meant he had passed. Glad that he is feeling well enough to push out to get to his ladies!

Just remember that selenium and E are not water soluble and you don't want to give him too much unless you're sure a deficiency is causing his wry neck. I truly hope that it is just a minor injury and that with rest (REST, Florus, not busting out of jail for GIRLS...) it will heal up good as new.

Florus is worse after his escape from his garage pen. I let him out today though so he could walk around the garage. The garage birds are small, in comparrison to Florus... Ok... they are TINY. All bantams, so he's a giant. Even the garage roo, Pat the Rat is so small, that he could probably walk between Florus's feet and not touch his belly.
