Fixing Florus, neck injury from fighting...

I wonder if he possibly had a stroke from the stress of fighting and injury. That could cause a "wry neck" effect also.

I had a dog that happened to - all I know is I let her out one morning and noticed she was "twisted" she looked like she was walking uphill ,on one side of her body. It made her lean and stumble. Breeze was such a doll, she was still happy and wagging all the time even when she fell. I started putting a lead on her and getting her to walk with me in the yard. I figured when she stumbled on grass it wasn't as bad as falling on gravel. I don't know how many days or weeks it took but, she eventually got back to normal.

Tonight I Found that Florus managed to get his coop door open. I had it cracked, and hooked on the fence so it wouldn't ope... I don't know how he did it. ANYWAY, he was in the broody coop chilling next to Big Red and her chicks. I put him back in his coop. He did not seem any worse for wear. He's still a crooked headed, but when it ends up twisted down, he's getting back to upright much faster.

Florus is not improving. Even with quiet, confinement with one of his hens, warmth and vits, hi pro food, he's gotten worse. I will find him head completely upside down... He still eats and drinks, but he is losing weight.... Trying to hand feed, but he refuses. He will eat though when I leave him with mash, eggs, gurt... I will video him... He is still crowing, but I am losing hope...

Today I opened Florus coop, and he was head up. Still cocked to one side, but not upside down. I took the constant light out, our weather has been nice enough here. Not freezing at night, so, I think I'll dispense with the light. I've put poultry drench right in his water and have given up on the poly vi sol. That was such a struggle to get it down him. He drinks the drench water just fine. Also been giving flock-raiser feed for the higher protein. He's still crowing his crooked head off. If he stops doing that, then I'll consider culling. Until then, will keep trying.

Today I let Florus free. He is completely head up straight! I was very happy to see that. His lady's eggs are also pipping! YAY! I wish I could close her off in their coop, so I am praying with her utter meanness there will be no problems. If there is, I will have to move her to the Bates motel for a week. UGH! Hope I can find my plastic over alls. Runs were totally flooded Thursday, and today is the first day since that there is no standing water, but still a lot of mud.

But Florus! So happy about Florus. I am praying there will be no relapses.
