I could use some help. I believe there are fleas in the chicken run. I am being eat alive especially around the ankles, so I am assuming it is fleas. Anyone have any ideas of how to get rid of them without harming my girls? Anything organic available and should I remove the girls for a couple of hours after spraying?
thanks for any suggestions or advice.

Or it could be avian mites. They could bite you, too.

Permethrin poultry dust would take care of them, but you'd need to repeat in a week. It's organic and non-toxic to chickens. They can return to the run immediately after treatment.

Another longer lasting organic treatment is with spinosad. I like a product called Elector PSP. It's a bit pricey but extremely effective, highly concentrated and a little goes a long way, so it's cost effective over the long run. It works as an enzymatic action and is completely natural and safe for your chickens to return immediately following spraying.

Azygous, thank you so much for that helpful information. I can not wait to get on amazon and purchase the dust and the Elector PSP. Pricey or not...I dread going out to the run lately so something must end. I appreciate you and so do my girls, Lucy and Bettywhite.
