Fleas

DE for Fleas

If you read the link I've posted, it will help you. It can take the fleas on your "dusted" pet 24-72 hours to die, but then there are all those that have yet to hatch to be ready for. You really do have to work with the DE over time/regularly to see its benefits.

Your Welcome!

We usually are swarmed with flies in the summer ( our land lady has a farm behind us, one neighbor keeps donkeys & goats, another keeps Ostriches and we have cows across the street from us). After using the DE around our yard & animals for a month, we finally noticed that the flies weren't such a problem anymore. We also haven't had any ticks since using the DE, another big plus!!!

Dawn...

THanks for the link...I am a huge DE fan and always looking for a good information source. I went to their DE page...It's the best well rounded DE summay page I've ever seen!

I did notice 2 things of note...
1. They suggest 5% in feed for chickens - not the typical 2% I usually see

2. They also advocate that if you don't see internal parasite control..then you need to increase the dose.

I've bookmarked the page...and I'll be sending people there who want info.

Thanks again for the link
Sandra

DE is great.
Dogs bedding should be ceder shavings- fleas hate it.

An natural deterent is--Dried eucalyptus leaves and seeds. I placed 6-8 cups of this into a 5 gallon bucket and filled it with boiling water to the top thena cover with lid. I then let it sit in the sun- 100 Degrees temp is great for this- for 1 week and when I open the bucket you then strain out the leaves and seeds and you have what I call" brown gold". It smells strong and all you do is dip your pet in it and let them naturally dry. I use to do my cats each year and while they smelled of euc their coats were soft -shiny and flea free!!!

When my cats had fleas we started feeding them brewers yeast. It makes the body produce some oder offensive to fleas. It takes awhile to work, but acts as a repellant. My cats loved it, and would even beg for it. Dogs, being less picky than cats, should eat it right up. We would buy it in bulk at the health food store.
