My grandma found a fledgling on the ground in her back yard. it seems to be a Sparrow and it won't take worms. it has not (in our knowledge) drank any water. the mother will not come back even before we interfered. What can we do? It looks like this bird below (picture off of google!) but it has a blackish scum on the sides of it's mouth and i checked it with a q-tip and it is hard. he is molting and he has pooped MULTIPLE times! Please help us! Thanks in advance!

There's an incredible site with details on every known bird species - habitat, food, etc. It's from Cornell University in NY. Great site to figure out what you've got. I don't see a link for the picture you mentioned, so I randomly picked a sparrow species. Use the 'search' function on the site to try other ones....
