Finally got around to getting my auto door on the coop when I did the cleaning this morning. Really for opening before I go outside in the mornings, especially when it’s raining or snowy. I’ll still be out there at night making sure they all made it in.

High quality materials, easy to install. A few screws, some caulking (I used Sashco Conceal chinking with some backer rod as I live in a cabin so I have tons of that stuff around), test and program the door and you’re done. I had my curious Nubian and Pygmy goats supervising and pushing into me to scratch their heads most of the install and it was still about 15 minutes to do.

It looks great, congratulations. I love having an auto door. I work nights so on some evenings I have to leave before the sun goes down. The door allows me to give the flock a little extra time outside. I hope you like yours as much as we like ours. :)

We go on a two week summer trip every year so that was my justification. I would hate to have a neighbor forget to close up the door and something get to them, but also would not expect someone to come out at sunrise and sunset. It will be nice to not go out first thing each morning as well.

The cost of the door will be worth it for the peace of mind you get while you're away, I'm sure. One reason I work nights is beause I hate early mornings...so I also like having the freedom to choose if I go out first thing or not.

I have just the controller for the door, used it with my own door. I've had it 4 1/2 years & I love it! Did you get the basic or the advanced? Mine is the advanced & I love never having to change anything.

I went with the standard. We do not do a time change in AZ so it didn't make much sense. Second day in and I am really happy with it.

Now actually thinking about it, yes I will. Not difficult, but it might have been smarter to get the advanced model. It asked me for my coordinates so maybe I did buy the advanced inadvertently. I’ll have to go look. If I have to adjust them it’s not too awful hard but that would be nice.

I have the same opener (advanced model), and have been extremely pleased. I suspect if you had the option to input your coordinates, that would be the advanced one. As I discovered this year, it is totally hands-free with regards to set once and forget. If you do live in a daylight savings state like I do, your display clock time would be off from the DST, but that doesn't affect the functionality at all since it's going off of coordinate location. I was mistakenly thinking I needed to adjust, but that would have been just for aesthetics in the time display.

Anyway, one other thing that I did on mine that I really like is that I added a reflective sticker on the inside (inside coop facing side) of the door. I picked up a small pack from Home Depot. This sticker allows my night vision camera inside the coop to easily see the reflective strip on the door, and I can verify that it is closed before going off to bed. Without the strip, the angle and reflection made it harder to verify. Now with the reflective sticker, it's a glowing reflection that only the camera picks up and is ignored by the birds.

So I did buy the advanced. When I turn on sun mode it shows weird times for the opening and closing. It currently shows opening at 12:32am and closing at 10:36am. Of course I tossed the instructions, will this update to more reasonable times?
