Flies?

Does keeping water in a medium sized cup (the water is stagnant) attract flies? I read somewhere that you're supposed to keep water and food outside of the coop?

And how can I keep flies away from chicken poop? There are a ton of flies in my backyard

DOn't think water will attract flies, but mosquitos could be an issue, if that's something that you have in your area.

Food and water should go where it makes sense in your set up - for me, that means food inside (to protect from weather and rodents) and water outside (to protect coop from moisture). But there's no particular placement that's ideal for all set ups.

I use dispotable fly traps as they're safe to use around the chickens, but there'll always be more flies than you can catch.
