flipping chicks

A friend gave me some fertile eggs for my broody gal. She mentioned that when the chicks hatch, if you flip them on their back, pullets will curl up their legs and cockerels will splay their legs wide.

Now, this is funny and typical of so many species, but is there any basis in fact?

No it is an old wives tale.

At least she didn't say to hold them by the head letting the body and legs dangle.

Well, it has never really worked for me, so I would say it's just an old wives tale

Definitely old wives tale. I’ve also heard that the shape of the egg they hatch from determines if it’s a male or female too. You’ll hear some of the craziest things.
