Okay, today is day 21 for the 14 GLW and 3 black Jersey giant eggs we set. We had a young black Jersey Giant cockerel who was with our four golden laced Wyandotte hens and one black Jersey Giant hen before he had to leave for pastures that don't mind crowing. I don't know if the GLW hens ever let him mate, but I did see him mate with the Jersey giant hen. So, we collected eggs, marked them, and set them. I could never tell candling what was happening with any of them. A friend of mine who does have some experience came over and candled last week, and thought only the 3 Jersey giant eggs MIGHT be good. But we waited anyway. Yesterday (day 20) I decided to open one of the GLW just to see. Nothing. So I opened the rest of the GWL. Nothing. Not a surprise, but a little disappointing.
Anyway, that left the three Jersey Giant eggs which theoretically should hatch tonight or tomorrow. This morning, after carefully reading the directions and comments here, I got my bucket of 100 degree water, and - after looking closely to be sure there were no cracks or pips, I float tested them. Each floated. Not only that, each bounced and bobbed all over the place! So exciting! Back in the incubator they went, and now I'll just keep my fingers crossed. But with any luck, this means we have three black Jersey giant chicks joining us this weekend. Woo-hoo!!
