I use the flock blocks in the winter too. I have broken big chunks off to put in other enclosures but they do crumble really easy. Depending on where ya go the ingredients to make them will be more then the flock blocks u buy at the feed stores. They get veggies, fruit, yogurt and eggs all winter as well but this keeps them from pecking at each other when they are all locked up over the long cold winter.
My Daddy buys those blocks at our red tractor store. The chickens love them. I dropped one out of the back of the truck and it broke 1/4 and 3/4. We gave the small piece to my batams and the big one to daddy's hens. I want to learn how to make them too. I can give a recipe to my 4-h leader. Maybe we can all cook them at a poultry meeting. That would be fun.
