Been looking into getting a flock block for my chickens most of the ones that I have found have oyster shells in them and I was wanting to know if it is okay to use because I have a rooster. Will he pick around them or will he not be able to

You don't really have to worry about excess calcium with roosters. With mammals, the calcium can build up in their systems and create kidney stones. Roosters only have one exit hole, though, and it's big enough to get rid of stones. And yes, they will usually avoid the calcium. I leave oyster shell in the bottom of the feed pans, and the hens eat it when they need it. I've never had a problem with anything else eating it and hurting itself.

FWIW, the damage done by excess calcium in non laying birds is not related to stones

Don't buy a flock block make your own. I found this great recipe here: http://florassippigirl.blogspot.com/2014/01/diy-better-than-flock-block.html.
Easy to put together and at least you will know what is in there. I made on modification to mine and put them into a cake pan. Then after cooling cut them into 4"x4" squares to fit into a square treat basket (https://smile.amazon.com/Happy-Hen-...TF8&qid=1510586003&sr=1-15&keywords=happy+hen)

Thanks for sharing! I bought a small flock block from tsc and my girls are not interested in it. It also had lots of milet in it (which I know is mainly filler food). This one looks great.
