C5 I am in a flock building year - got more than I need total, and will be selling and culling down by September/October.

Currently - master Rooster and 4 adult hens
12 - 10 week olds - 7 cockerels and 5 pullets not laying
7 - 1 month old chicks - thinking all pullets
these are all together, but last night I saw one of the juvenile roosters trying to get lucky - so shortly I will be pulling out the cockerels

Sept/Oct - I will cull the cockerels, and sell or give away 2 of the old hens, and sell 6 of the pullets.

When we get to 50 answers in the poll or so, I'll go thru the comments for the answers from the multiflock people and make a graph/chart. Thus far [Warning: Extremely Small Data Set], its much as I expected, but certainly not exactly as I expected by any stretch. More young birds than I anticipated, less Cx flocks (time of year?)

As of the moment, I have one mature rooster who has 6 adult hens.
I have 8 youngsters.
This is generally representative of my flock over time, the numbers change but the proportions generally don't. Sometimes I have more youngsters than adults but that is reduced rapidly after each hatch as I sell/give for butcher them as they reach 12-15 weeks old. So in general, I have more adults than youngsters.

Ok maybe this is calculus after all, LOL... I've been watching this thread all afternoon, I still don't get the numbers. I voted A, but what are the numbers? Original example is 17 + 17 +13 = 3? But MysteryChicken has 4 + 3 = 4 or 3? 3KillerBs has a zillion birds = 4?

We have 4, two-year-old Isabel hens in the Ameraucana pen.
8 Mottled and Black Ameraucana juveniles will be joining them.
2-3 roosters will be kept for color and may split the pen. I will be hatching out a lot from these for breeding.

4 Mottled Orpington juveniles will share with 8 Olive eggers. I'll be hatching more Orpingtons from the breeder to join them, and removing any male olives.

Hackle shed - 20 Genetic Hackle juveniles.
Will be keeping a high ratio of males since they are so nice, except for behavior or obvious flaws.

So that's 3-4 pens and everyone will rotate out to range in a fenced half acre.
I'm not counting the 18 juveniles we are still in the process of selling. Everyone wants just two or three, so it's been a slow trickle.

Ok....

I have 2 entirely separate flocks, but I followed directions and focused on my main flock:
  • 10 hens
  • 1 rooster
  • 6 pullets (not yet laying)
  • 1 cockerel
Side note: My 5 adult ducks (females) are part of this main flock.

Side side note: My other flock consists of 2 adolescent pullets and a duckling (sex yet to be determined), but the duckling will eventually join the main flock.
