We have cut our flock down from about 100 birds to 6, which consists of 5 Buff Orps and 1 Black Cochin Roo (my yard buddy). When I realized that I was down to 6 chickens, I thought I was going to have a panic attack. My husband says I like "crazy looking chickens"... he prefers the more traditional-looking birds. So, I compromised.
So, don't worry... we've got 2 Blue Wheaten/Wheaten Ameraucana's (plus 6 hatching eggs) and 10 BBS Orpingtons being added before the end of the year.
We both LOVE Orpingtons, and the Am's are more traditional-looking but lay an unique-colored egg = the best of both worlds.
We are thinking that my concentration on just 1-2 breeds at a time (instead of like 12 breeds/varieties like I had at one time) we will be able to better produce awesome birds! Thank you, BYC, for your support of our endeavors and for being our enabler.
