Weather update:
Got some rain today! We have been getting massive storms too. But no flooding.
Got 1.8mm of rain today.

How did the results end up? What weight did most end up being? Did you eat them?
The better strain produced 1.6Kg birds on average, the other strain 1.3Kg on average. Only got 72.6Kg total meat out of them, was hoping for at least 125Kg.

I'm going to switch back to the last hatchery I used, and get the strain that performed better in this test from them. Last year I bought 150 from them and got 140 to the freezer with a total of 386Kg of meat, plus 90 quarts (.94L) of stock. Anything over 2.3Kg got broken down into pieces and I used the necks, back and feet to make stock.

Ohhh sweet I can't wait to follow the journey! Im still tossing up what to do with my Cockerel.

I’ll be ordering my next set of silkies from Cackle Hatchery :) I’m going to either sell-off or donate all the extra cockerels I receive for pets or meat. :D

As of now, I plan to order 5 blue splash and 5 Black Silkies. And possibly 5 whites or buffs. :wee :woot

And in about a month and a half, the quail journey begins :p

Hi Ellie, I will check out your flock journey too. Are your older birds still laying? Can't wait to see more of them. :pop

No one is laying now in this cold lol, those slackers. But the three years and pullets lay daily when the weather is above freezing. The older gals tend to lay once a month. The nine-year-olds are both SLW- which in my opinion- are great winter breeds and are extremely hardy. You wouldn't even think they are nine.
