Flock/Life Journey's 2019

Does anyone know how much a 25kg bag of feed should last? We got a big bag because it was almost 2 hours round trip going to the feedstore but this is to feed to two tiny button quail. I didn’t think of it being perishable until someone mentioned noticing feed at a feedstore that was a few months old.

Store it in a cool, dark, dry place and it should be good for six to nine months. It really all depends on the vitamin pack used as well as other ingredients.

ETA: Give me a list of ingredients and I'll let you know if any have a shorter shelf life.

So we talked and he wanted to try getting another chicken. But he wanted to make sure it wasn't exactly like his he lost and wanted it to be older but not laying yet. We found someone near us that had just that!! :celebrate

Salt is the more white with Pepper and Syrup. Also why do all the little ones squeeze into a non safe corner when there an escape pod just on the other side? Silly birds!

I'm glad you found some started pullets, I hope these are healthy and strong!
I know it must have been heartbreaking for your son to lose Watermelon. You are right it does happen, it's part of life, but nonetheless we still feel it. Losing a special one is very hard. I hope he enjoys them.

X2!

It will go faster though if weevils get into it. Either get some pantry pest bait traps and or keep the feed in an air tight container--which is hard to do for that much feed!

food grade 5 gal bucket will hold 25 pounds. You can get O2 absorbers fairly cheap as well as lids with a good seal. That will create a vacuum in your buckets.

ETA: I'd probably figure out what to use in a week and fill a container from the bucket to last a week. That way you're only opening the bucket once a week.

Very good advice!

If you see any worms in poo, it is a heavy load. For now, assume all of them have worms. Since we are at the summer solstice, wait until Fall and send in a sample of poo for a fecal float test. If the test shows worms, treat the flock again then.

It might take some time to get it under control or it is possible that they will need to be treated regularly because of there being a lot of worms in your area.

DE will never kill worms. ACV can increase health and let them live better with worms but will not kill them either.
Thank you for the information. I have given them all the medicated food- though still no other symptoms from any other bird. Hopefully the broody being separated means the others don't have worms.

I would repeat in 7 to 10 days with a different worming medicine. Valbazen is a good one to use
