We are going to a friends house.. she lives right next the park and we walk over from her yard to watch the giant fireworks show that the park hosts! One of my favorite holidays :ya

Bob, you’re lucky to have your wife join. I tried imagining DH joining a chicken website but it was impossible. He has so far said the quail are cool and maybe when we actually get chickens he will tolerate them. I do have a card from him years back when we were living apart that says “I’m sorry your chicken died” :love

Michelle, Santa Cruz is one of my favourite places. DH proposed to me on the boardwalk...can’t remember if I told him to or if it’s because it’s one of my favourite places. :gig

And I’m sorry your hen died :( I wonder if it has to do with the weather? Since moving to Canada I always look up cold hardy breeds because we get a lot of snow hear and often I’ll read that chickens more often die of heat stroke than cold weather issues. It also seems like there’s more that can be done with protecting chickens from cold than heat.

For a long time I focused on getting cold hardy breeds and telling myself I shouldn’t get my favourite breed the bantam Cochin because of their single combs but I found out they are otherwise cold hardy. As for heat I remember reading about someone adding ice to their water or freezing 2 litre bottles for them. I thought about a fan but I wonder if it will cause respiratory issues if it makes their shavings go everywhere. Maybe if the fan is placed high.

Oh and for 4th of July I’m calling my American relatives and a friend to say Happy 4th of July! I miss going to see the fireworks especially the time I lived in AZ and went to sit and watch them on a field. We had Canada Day on the 1st and there were fireworks but our toddler has to sleep early.

Everyone is doing great! And a neighbor gave me 12 barnyard mix eggs to try so hatch 2 is started!!!! :D:pop:ya
