Flock/Life Journey's 2019

Today I had a feeling that I should check up on this thread, so I went to the last post that I "liked", and it just happened to be December 13. It's ironic that today is the 13th so exactly 2 months later. I can't believe it has been 2 months...

I hope you all had a happy holidays.

As for news for me, my son turned 2 almost 2 weeks ago. I ordered 6 chicks from Performance Poultry. They are 3 and a half hours from me but I can't wait to make the drive on either April 24 or 25th to pick them up. Some of their chicks they import from Ideal Poultry and others they breed themselves or get from other breeders.

Anyways these are the breeds I'm getting, all bantams:

Blue laced red wyandotte
Barred rock
Mottled cochin
Silver laced cochin
Gold laced cochin
Mille fleur d'Uccle

I had a hard time deciding so I narrowed it down by picking the most patterned birds. I was tempted to add a dark brahma but I am getting the below coop which is the most insulated premade coop I can find but only allows for 3 medium sized birds. I am allowed 5 hens so I hope I get at least a couple hens and that I'll be able to rehome the remaining roos.

As for my current pets- out of my original button quail pair, I got someone to hatch 8 of their eggs, there were 4 silver and 4 normal colored. The same week I tried to rehome the males they got in a fight and died when I was at work. One of the females got injured in the fight so she died too. One of the males flew out a small opening of the terrarium and we thought the cat ate him because we looked for his body all over the house and could not find it. One day I made spaghetti and meatballs, a meatball rolled under the oven, I reached in and out came the dead quail. I will not say how long after he was missing this occured, either because I don't know or don't want to know..anyway RIP dear birds. Quail are too much for me. I am keeping the mother and daughter I have left but won't get anymore unless I'm retired and have a ton of time to devote to them. Chickens I just have to get because I'm too addicted.
I am sorry you lost the quail!

Congrats on the new babies and coop

Thanks, Ron! I took pictures of the quail grown up but can't find them. If I ever find them I'll post them. Here are some that I found of them when they were hatchlings with their dad Petri. He was such a great dad. He took care of them when their mom wouldn't. We still love Petra though..

Hey y'all! I've been slacking on getting online lately..so many doctor's appointments for the pregnancy (I'm of "advanced age" lol so lots of specialist visits). We found out I will be having a boy. We've hatched a couple batches of ducklings now and been working on the new run and coop. Have my neighbors game fowl eggs in the incubator now and when they're done I'll try some chicks of my own. today we sold 5 ducklings and have orders for a few more already. So lots going on! @MysticUniKitty sorry to hear about the chicks! I have been looking at getting one of those plates too...just got an infrared bulb for my heat lamp which is different but seems to works well for now. :fl

We've had a few more losses here, something is eating everyone's chickens! My neighbor lost every last one of theirs this last week!
Really hoping to get the last poles in Monday for our runs so we can start fencing the chickens we got in.

Happy news! Pepper is finally laying!!! I caught her hiding in her nest with 3 eggs! Toasted is slowly picking her as new fav.

Babies and young ones are growing fast! Frosting AND Paninni both look like boys do I might have to pick. If I do end up picking, it'll be Paninni, beautiful color and has Toasted's personality. When I go in with them I have to watch frosting like a hawk, Paninni gives me my space. Swirl(all red one) is definitely a girl and if they start being too aggressive to her I'll separate them. Paprika is looking exactly like Swirl, so that'll be fun!

I just got done reading everyone's posts. I'm so sorry about the quails, @bantamsrmyfav !

@FlockQueen so exciting to hear about new little one!! And all the baby ducks too!

Hopefully everyone is doing great!
