The Hawkeye State
I've had this experience before with two other Buckeyes so I'm fearing the worst.

I found Speckles this morning sitting out on the floor of my garage that has flake down as if she was planning to lay.

Picked her up and put her in a nesting box. She didn't fuss.
I checked her vent she was pushing, and it was a little messy.
Checked her after I had a break from work and she's still there after a couple hours or so.

Brought her food and water, no interest.
I gave her Calcium Citrate D3 tablet 630mg.
Gave Vetrx that was expired by a month, tried to syringe feed, I didn't push her to, she got some of it.

Tried Vetrx again, had better luck letting take what she wanted.
Tried giving her boiled egg yolk, no interest.

Found her head laying down in the mini flake so I propped her up some. She seem to be awake, and aware, and then seems to want to sleep.

Fast forward, not much change, I brought her in the house, as I was cleaning up some of the Vetrx from her face I noticed her head was pretty warm. I think she's still pushing, but not hard. Doesn't appear to be in pain, but does close her eyes.

I made some 911 Flock Recovery and this time got her out of the box to complete a syringe feed, she got that down so I placed her back in the nest, but when I looked at the towel I set her on, I noticed a yellow liquid.

*should also add, after giving her the 911 recovery, noticed a fowl smell. Not sure if that was the liquid or her crop, but her crop feels empty.

I wonder if that's part of an egg she expelled. I'd give her another Calcium in case there's still an egg or part of one in her.

A totally different thought is, you said her tush was messy, and it stinks. It could be vent gleet. If you lean this way, got anything like monistat or something that has miconazole nitrate in it or something for yeast infections. I'd wash her vent area, apply it there and give her some orally. A little yogurt for a few days would help too.

Ok vent gleat is not something I have looked into so I will start. But unfortunately she has mites! After I gave her the syringe of flock recovery and then another calcium tab I start itching instantly, and found mites were crawling everywhere!

I had a small bottle of Permethrin so I quick soaked up some into a papertowel and smeared a ring around her nest box and long the base board in my mud room as I found them on a landing by the stairs too.

They were itchy and may have even bit me. I get her 1.5 ml oral Ivermectin on her back above the preening gland.

I found more on my hand, as a test I touched the mites one by one with the residual Ivermectin in the tip of the syringe and they died.

I've got a bigger bottle of Permethrin to use as a spray. I'm preparing for the worst, this could mean a total clean out of the garage. I have another pullet that isn't yet integrated, but today training wheels are off, but I need that pen!

Top it off, I had been deworming this pulled (last day today) only to find I mistakenly use the Safe-guard that expired in Novemember...

Anyway Pull you may recall "Sneetches" has been progressing so she may in fact just be a late bloomer. But she's outside in my fenced yard away from the potiental mites.

Now I need to figure out how much Permethrin I need to spray around the mud room and stairway, pen, kennel and around the garage after clear out all the straw/flake.

On top of this the geese aren't completely moved out yet so I may have to push that project up fast to like by tonight and get them in my run outside because they are sitting on a bed of straw in the garage with everyone else and that's due for change out and wouldn't make sense to leave it. I will have to just throw up some tarps around the bottom of the chicken run so they won't be seen. It's otherwise secured with hardware cloth...

Back to ailing hen, can't get her to eat this morning so thinking of syringing some mash.

Requests for you friends:

1. Link to the vent gleet treatment, I do have miconazole on hand!

2. Link Permethrin mixing? I'm going to spray a large area.

3. Anything else I may need to know?

4. Any prayers or words to put gas in my tank will be appreciated!

Thank you!

Update: I'm beat from head to toe. Too many things going on at once. I gave up for the night at 9 PM last night trying to relocate the geese which didn't pan out.

My goose who I originally intended to treat who has battle wounds from sparing with my chief gander is worse than I thought. I pinned him and dosed him with Ivermectin.

Update on girl above: Yesterday she sat in her bedding, in a rush not thinking I just added the 2oz reserevoir of Permethrin to an empty hydrogen peroxide bottle with a spray head and sprayed the chicken roosts, and around girl's pen. I am here today to get that ratio right after this post.

I also used it to spray around my basement area where I wash clothes and poultry stuff, I couldn't get it aired out very well, as the mud room, thankfully I could open windows, but too cold for that last night so the fumes got to me a bit.

Last night girl wanted to join the flock on the roots, I set her up on hers in her pen. This morning I smelt something fowl so I assume it was her. I set her down and noticed she's swollen below her vent and under belly?

She was walking around to the drinker so she is drinking now, she gobbled some egg yesterday, I think she may have took to the feed, not 100% sure, but I will get some mash for her in a bit, and see about monistat.

So may be I need to look into waterbelly? something is defintely held up there. I don't think it's an egg, I will get her another calcium tab after this too.

But wow... in the middle of all these I had to supervise Sneetches with Little Chief who was after her. I got them to roost last night and I'm hoping she's going to be self sufficient today so I can start relocating the geese and get the garage cleaned out.

Since LC is jumping all the girls I my thought was to dose him with Ivermectin too. So he and Sneetches got dosed last night on the roost. I will continue to dose the others as I am able probably tonight when they go to roost.

Unfortunatley it's too windy to burn any of the bedding 😭

Rewind to Little Romeo, he is in much worse shape from sparing with his dad then I thought. So he got a dose of Ivermetcin this morning. Adding wild goose wrangler to my resume.

To top it off I did catch a mite crawling on me after I got in. I noticed I have bites all around my neck chest, and even though I showered, it felt like I was getting bites all night.

Though I could not see any mites this time so not sure if that was something else I brought in from the straw pen, but this is the time allergies start to hit me as things warm up so who knows.

I recently cleaned out 90% of the mini flake I had down for the chickens which I will do all over again. I am going to war with the mice and the sparrows. Although they're cute, I'd be surprised if they didn't bring this in so sorry Saint Francis they got to go!

I've got a plastic bin with 6 mouse traps in the garage I was catching near that many a day. Just got done knocking down the bird nests which is a daily thing now.

If I am using Martins or Gordons permethrin 10 concentrate, I use 5 ml per quart of water to dilute. That can be used to treat the coop or used on the chicken. If using ivermectin pour-on 5 mg per ml, I use it on the back of the neck between the shoulders over the spine at a dosage of 0.1 ml per every 2 pounds of weight.

Thanks! I have both Prozap Insectrin X (Permethrin 10%) and a smaller one of Duravet Permethrin 10%. As for the Ivermectin I'll dose at the base of the neck and shoulders like with dogs for the next birds in line.

Mother nature is out to get me. Just rained with 40 mph gusts... thankfully the rain stopped, but it blew into the garage a bit. Getting the geese moved and everything pulled out and burned is complicated by this weather.

When it rains it pours!

So girl isn't touching her crumble I don't think today. Got her some crushed egg shell with hardboiled egg and she gobbled that up.

Saw her in front of the calcium tray this morning not sure if she was getting anything. I forgot to give the calcium this morning.

Did see more runny yellow on the flake bedding when I first went out to open everything up.

Wish there was good diagram on the internals I can never tell which direction the tubes connect/flow for laying and intestines.

Kinda, I should take a class on chicken anatomy.

She seems to be perking up today. She's definitely got some strength back, fought with me and wanted to run out of the pen when I left the door open behind me.

She's looking better too. I had to take her off the roost this morning. Yesterday she tried to jump up to the low roost in the pen, but didn't make it. Quite a turn around after giving the first dosage of Monistat yesterday afternoon!

She's standing more now, but here's a couple from yesteday:

Gave her the next dose of Monistat this morning. She is eating her crumble too. I had ground up some yesterday, but she didn't take to it. Later I saw her going at the feeder so that's a relief.

I haven't given the calcium tab today. But I will get her another hardboiled egg and crush up the shell after this post. I'm a little late with that, but super tired, took today off and dozed off for an hour.

Rescheduled my vet appointment for the goose. I'm close to rehoming with a recuse, they have farm and will provide him treatment. He's definitely got something going with this beak. I thought was just bite marks, but looks like cracks with dark spots. Hard to describe.

I think he also was getting into my overhead door styromfoam insultation. They chewed a big hole in it. Part of his issues just may be that he won't focus on his needs, because he's too busy hovering over Nessie in competition with Romeo his dad.

They go roving all over like a clown car Nessie leads the way, the son follows and the dad keeps pace so he can run the son off they're pretty much all three inseperable. He's definitely not lost steam, but looking pretty ragged from the original battles and whatever else now.

Hoping the Ivermectin does something for him. You can see pink on his arms and shoulders which have some woundings from the battles. The ganders would bite each others shoulders.

@Goosebaby

To top it off now I think someone has worms...

I think it might even be the pullet I thought I was deworming with the expired Safe-guard... she has some really wet green and white poops last two days. Almost like when I first got her in December, she turned it around and that's partly why I was comfortable to let her out of the pen for this situation.

@Wyorp Rock you might recall my posts on my Liege Fighter pullet I had isolated to the porch.

Good news is she's pretty much accepted by Little Chief now and is running with the flock (for the most part.)

Attaching the droppings I think could be worms with possibly Sneetches.

So I'm not out of the woods yet.

So vent gleet WAS at least one of her issues! I've never heard of one with it get as sick as her though, but since she had mites too, it was a double whammy on her.

So glad she's looking and feeling better!

Yeah! Now I wonder if that wasn't what was going on with the last two Buckeyes that didn't make it... live and learn I suppose. Thank you for the advice!
