While we're on the subject of quail....What is the going rate for keets and adults? (Jumbo, Button, etc.)There
There's an auction tonight in Bushnell and I seem quail there. It starts at 7 pm
8858 S. HWY 301
I keep them partially shaded. That gives them a choice whether to be in the sun or not. To save on cost I use empty feed bags opened up as sun screens. The chickens get a pretty picture to look at and all we see is the white inside part.Do yall keep your runs shaded? My pullets seem wimpy about being in the sun much and prefer a shady spot. They're 8wk RSL and BSL.
I think the yards with more chickens are likely to foster an attitude of being less picky and eating whatever you can get.
Unfortunately, we had four chickens.. Two were pretty aggressive and would chase the others away when food was around. These two would come running whenever anyone entered the yard. About two weeks ago, these two chickens disappeared from the yard one afternoon when we were out. No sign of predatory struggle. No feathers, the remaining two showed no signs of being pecked or harmed.
I figure with a big community yard sale in the neighborhood, someone opened the gate, the two aggressive chickens came running and were snatched up. The two meek chickens we have left have full run of the yard.
Oh yes. We did comb the neighborhood on bike and asked everyone within a two or three block area if they saw our chickens. No luck.
Anyone else have their chickens nabbed in broad daylight lately?

The same thing happened to me a few months ago to one of my hens. I was standing in the yard too.Yes, I lost two pullets from my free ranging flock to a bobcat in the middle of the day, while I was out in the yard.
