Hope to have some partridge and splash next year but nothing currently. I just added them to the flock myself and my babies are only 5 1/2 wks old

. I just love them to pieces. Great personalities but definitely like to be the "boss" lol.

Thanks, don't think I can wait that long though. My 2 babies are 4 weeks old and I really wanted to get some more before they got to big!

I just recently hatched a bunch of blue wheaten Ameraucana. They are awesome looking, but i am finding the males quite aggressive, is this usual for this breed, (they are my first ameraucanas) They are also much bigger than i expected. At 8 weeks they are outpacing my Marans boys!!!!

this weekend one of the little guys jumped up and tried to peck me! so i grabbed him up and held him for a while then he ran off looking all embarrassed.

Has anyone been having problems with birds dying for no discernible cause? I just lost another cochin for no visible reason- so upset!!!! She was eating fine the night before last, then when my son went out to show off the chickens to his friend yesterday morning- she's in the nesting box and is dead. No mites, no bites, no wounds, not seen any signs of illness, they get fresh water 3x a day at least, seemed to be eating and drinking well and was chasing around in the pen with her sisters the evening before. *bangs head on wall* This is now FOUR of my babies I've lost for no reason we can find. (Don't have the money to have the autopsy done on them, sadly. Although if this keeps up we might just have to find the money!!)

Sick bird investigations are free. I had a hen die for no apparent reason and they necropsied it for free. Waiting on final results. Contact Jennifer. She can help you. I had to drive my dead hen to the lab in Kissimmee and she had it processed under state number for free. Sorry for your losses.

Thanks for the info... I've already buried the bird at the back of the property, but if another gets sick/dies I will certainly get it looked into. We have wondered if squirrels getting into the pen and stealing food could expose them to diseases that kill them? (Haven't seen any, but the top half of the 9 ft. tall pen is the larger opening/ rectangular mesh wire- 3 inch long by 2 inch wide opening) I'm just getting upset because we keep losing hens, before they even get to laying age (these cochins are now about six months old and are so sweet- they are my babies!!) We've had some stolen, and then lost four for no reason we can figure. I've cleaned nesting boxes, water bowls, food bowls, changed hay in the pens/boxes, raked out the whole pen and coop, separated the OEG hen from the cochins in case she's bullying and we just can't see it through the fluffy feathers, *sigh* I'm running out of ideas of what it could be and/or how to prevent it. I'd be sad if I lost them to a raccoon again, but at least I'd have an explanation! /end rant Sorry... just very frustrated.

i got a frizzle a few days ago and i'm wondering if you guys think what i think about what sex is it ....... lets see who thinks its a boy or a girl
im not sure how old it is the lady that gave it to me was not sure ............ please let me know what you think :)

Any chance it could be a snake. I had 3 I removed from coop this weekend. Corn/rat snakes are constrictors so there wouldn't be any visible sign unless they tried to eat her and then there might be wet or matted feathers around her head/neck. One of the ones I removed attacked one my 5 wk old roosters and was constricting it when I walked in. Snake was way too small to eat the rooster but I'm sure he would have tried had I not been there. Sorry for your loss and hope you figure it out.

No problem. If you decide to buy babies the ones I have are almost 6 weeks old. I have 12 and am only keeping 4 so the others will be for sale in a week or so.

I would get some, but my kid's really enjoy watching them vein and grow in the egg....then the excitement of the hatch!!!! Beautiful memories for my kid's and I!!!
