FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Woot woot, I'm so excited. Have 9 broody hens out of 19 layers. Well one is blind and I don't think she lays much so let's say out of 18... I decided to put my broody girls to work and got fertilized Bourbon Red Turkey eggs and goose eggs. Have never incubated eggs before with either a machine or a hen so I was nervous. Yesterday, my olive egger hatched three out of three turkeys from my first attempt!!!! Never thought poultry could make me so excited. Have 4 goose eggs coming up and 12 more turkey eggs. My kids, friends and neighbors are excited to see what hatches! If anyone is interested in having white Chinese geese, let me know. Ill be hoarding all the turkeys.

Hello everyone in the sun shine state. I live in Homosassa. I have just started my chicken family. I have 2 hens and a rooster. They are all cochin bantams. I had bantams as a child but they weren't nearly as sweet as these little gals and guy.

On the 2nd Saturday of each month, Family Feed and Pet has a chicken swap.  They're at 3669 Paul Buchman Hwy.  I haven't been to it, so I'm not sure if it's good or not.  There used to be a small animal auction on McIntosh Rd. in Thonotosassa, but I'm not sure if they still hold that one.  I'll let you know if I hear any updates on it.

Thanks for the info! Sorry I haven't back on in a couple of days. Please let me know about that auction we are planning to live out Macintosh way

I have permit #12. It's all politics and a money making scheme. I saw it first hand at the final zoning board meeting and discussion just prior to the city council vote. It still had to be approved by the mayor because the city council vote wasnt unanamous. The mayor approved the ordinance.
They should make all cat and dog owners attend classes at the UF building like they did for us chicken folks. The city would make a bundle and/or there would be a heck of a protest from the citizens. Never had this silliness when I lived just across the border in Georgia.
I've got my 5 birds and coop. I was at the final chicken class last night and the zoning board official stated that zoning board officials were going to present to city council to raise the 300 permit limit because there havnt been any complaints, that the program has been successful and there were alot more people that wanted to own hens throughout the city. I believe that an amendment would have to be taken up to change the ordinance to raise the permit limit, I could be wrong about that though. It'll be a wait and see situation and when I see it, is when I'll believe it.

I'm permit 157 in Murray Hill and a Georgia transplant and UGA fan as well. I tried to take the January class and they were booked so I was worried I wouldn't make the 300. I got in the Feb class and got my permit the next morning. Got the brooder set up and got my 5 chicks last week. Hope they increase the numbers to open it up to more people that are interested.

12 Assorted Buff, Silver, Lavender, golden, and black Polish! Momma hen is a Cream Legbar doing a great job! I slipped them under her last night with her 3 new hatchlings. ALL the eggs hatched, timing perfect with the broody. After so many failures for once , everything is perfect!

I'm from Dunnellon but live in the Citrus County side. We have a couple of swap meets monthly.

Thanks for the info on the swap meets. I can travel to Dunellon easily from where I live now and will enjoy the road trip with the grandkids and visit my brother in western Ocala at the same time. When I am at my brother's home, we often go to the Walmart there and of course, always stop in at TSC just to browse. Brother is thinking about getting some chicks as well.
