It is line breeding but I personally am careful about that. I had 2 males of the same line from different people that I put some females with. My 2 original males are now gone so I will be getting a new male from a friend from the same line to put with my younger girls and my older girls will get a younger male from one of my hatches. I had my girls separated along with the males so I would know who I would breed with who. No sister/brother breeding here. I am not mating different breeds or different lines together. My intentions is to keep the line I have pure which is the Reese/Mohawk line. I am also doing the same with my RC RIR's and my RC RIW's. I just started this year with my RC RIR's. I have had my Reese/Mohawk line for about 6 year now and my RC RIW's about 4 to 5 years.
I will be taking some of my Reese/Mohawk RIR cockerels (around 6/7 months old} to sell at the inverness show and also some of my young RC RIW (around 5 month old) cockerels.

Mating of 2 different breeds usually ends up a hybrid which is if you tried to breed a male and female together of the cross you would get a mixed bag of chicks because they wouldn't breed true so it wouldn't really be a new breed but would be a hybrid. I have some SC RIW females that I breed with one of my HRIR males and get a Red Sex-Link which lays very well. My Heritage are very good layers even though they start to lay later than most other breeds and hatchery stock. The females are a little darker red but still have the white tips on their tail feathers and they lay very well too.

Here is a picture of the youngsters in a grow out coop and pen. The smaller picture is of some chicks when I used a standard RIR male with the RIW females.

Once when reading about Quarter Horse breeding they said that when it worked it was line breeding and when it didn't work it was in-breeding (this is where I would put the smiley face if I knew how).

My buffs are very friendly, they run up to my wife and kids like a dog would when they come home.the black comes but stays a few feet back. She is so much bigger that when i need to i just walk over and pick her up. She does like my youngest son(5) a she lets her pick her up and walk around. I had two blacks but lost her sister to being egg bound. We are thinking about adding three or four more hens. I have some Barred Rocks and a group of unknowns that a friend asked me to hatch. I can keep some if I want as long as he gets three Barred hens. I think the Barreds would be nice to have but not sure how mixing them will go. The unknowns Im not holding alot of hope for hatching success. i dont think that they were handled very well and the first sign that I dont like i'm pulling them out. I had no problems bringing in the two blacks but they were the same age and the they were much bigger than the hatchery buffs.

It is line breeding. When you breed especially sister/brother that is in-breeding. Father/daughter and mother/son is supposed to be OK, but I try not to and more or less have 2 breeding families of the same line. When you breed sister/brother that is where the chance comes in for undesirable traits to show up. In birds mostly deformities.

The show starts around 9 am and runs till about 2 or 3. Try to get there early because that's when all the birds will be there. People start packing their birds up as soon as their group has been judged. It's free to get in and there is only one parking lot so park anywhere in there. There is also a huge flea market in the building next door if that interests you.
