Hi, everyone. So excited to find this Florida thread. I am in Middleburg, which is in Clay County, not far from Jacksonville. This is our first time raising chickens. Have bought the coop and hubby is getting the run in place so we should be ready to buy chickens soon. Anyone know someone in this area who has young adult chickens for sale? We don't want to go the chicks route. We will be raising our chickens for eggs only and I'm sure they will become pets. Will be happy for any advice you can give me. What to get; what to look out for; any tips whatsoever. We have been in this home for 13 years, have never seen a rodent other than the squirrels, no possums, no coons and rarely a snake so we're hoping these will not be too much of a problem.

Anxious to get to know you all.

Welcome to BYC and the FL state thread!

There are predators in the area (hawks, rats, snakes, etc.) so it's best to be prepared for them before they get any of your chickens. Use hardware cloth in your coop and run (forget chicken wire) and a covered run will help keep them safe from things like hawks.

Good luck getting some nice birds to start you off!
