FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Thanks Cmom

Incase you missed it since it was a couple of posts back already now my original questions were the following re NPIP Cert

What is the cost?
Which diseases do they test for?
Are any other diseases able to be tested for at an additional charge?
What is the cost of VS 9-3 forms?
Can you explain the certification process for Florida?

Thanks Cmom

I saw your original post. I show my birds at poultry shows and have my birds tested yearly. There is no cost. Since in another post you said you read the links I assumed you saw what the birds are tested for.
In my other post as I stated, I will check out any additional tests and costs associated with the tests as my birds are due for their yearly tests next month. I don't know what the cost of VS 9-3 form is but will check on that too. I only have the required test done for showing my birds at poultry shows. I have been doing this for many years and so far have had no problems with my birds testing positive for anything, but I'm sure there could be a first time. I'm looking forward to learning a few new things myself. Good luck with whatever you decide and have fun...

Thanks for inquiring for me Cmom.

In reference to the diseases I of course know they check for pullorum-typhoid but I know some states also test MG, MS, AI, and others to be able to be certified unless I am misunderstanding the other posts i read on byc on the topic. I'm not clear on Florida's policy. I don't have any particular interest in showing birds, at least not in the foreseeable future. My interest would be establishing breeding flocks so that I may sell lawfully out of state as well as locally.

NPIP testing is free. There is a phone number to the state vet's office on one of those web pages. Call it. They will schedule an appointment to come test your birds. They only test the ones that you are going to breed, or show. They can tell you what all they test for, and answer any other questions you may have. The process is fairly simple too. When they come out, they will ask how many birds you are going to have tested. They will then set up a small fold up table, put a glass square on it, and put drops of testing reagent on the glass for the number of birds being tested. You will then bring them one bird at a time. They will pluck a couple small feathers from underneath the wing, and poke them, just like when they poke your finger for blood at the doctor's office. They get that one drop of blood, and put it in the drop of testing reagent. The process is repeated until all the birds that you're going to breed, or show are done. They give you a temporary paper with the results right then, and then you will get the official card within a couple weeks.

Well thanks a lot for that getaclue. That was helpful. The reason for me inquiring here is because I am still in Europe and did not want to call international to inquire when the answer isn't something I MUST know immediately, but rather would like to know if someone knew the answers off hand. I didn't think it would be a hassle for someone who is NPIP certified in Florida to state what their birds are tested for outside of P-T. It seemed like a pretty benign question. As far as form 9-3 goes, I read somewhere that they cost $65 for 25 but I don't know if I was misunderstanding what I was reading which is why I asked about it here. Thank you for your help though and to everyone else whose offered their help. I'll just spend the money and give them a call.

I agree with getaclue. On the day of testing my birds, I try to have the birds ready but I have a rather large flock of around 200 birds. Often times the testing agent may run a little late and this helps her to keep on her schedule. In addition to the blood tests on my birds they also swab inside of the birds mouths and those results are done in a lab and if there are any positive results the state will notify you but if the test are negative you won't get a reply concerning the results.

Hi all! I have three chickens I am trying to rehome before my chicks are bigger. A 1-year old buff Silkie hen ($10) and two 5 year old hens...a Dominique and a Gold Laced Wyannotte. I'm asking $5.00 each for them to ensure they aren't dinner. :) I'm in Lake County. Please let me know if you're interested. Thanks!

On a different note since I can't contribute to the testing process as I know zero!

I have decided to order chicks online from Meyer BUT don't need 25! Anyone want some chicks? Any requests in the next few minutes and I can add it to my order. Otherwise it's a whooolllle lotta buff orps!
