I've read those don't actually stop the crowing, just makes it not as loud. Not sure if that matters much to you.

Maybe if he’s not loud I might be able to keep him. It’s worth the try. I am conflicted a little because I don’t want to hurt him....

For the people in the know about the Dunnellon swap that happens twice a month, have you observed coturnix quail or hatching eggs regularly offered there? I’m having a hard time finding coturnix eggs locally and the craigslist adds I’ve followed up on have been a bust (the nearest guy to me that’s spammed his quail egg adds all over blew me off without explanation). Dunnellon is a ways from me but I have family down that way I can visit if I make the trip.

I'm not sure about the swaps in Dunnellon, @cmom should be able to answer that though.
What area are you in? I'm just outside of Orlando and there is a fella here that I've been told does good business. (although he spams CL so hopefully it's not the same fella) I called a local feed store to see if they carried quail chicks, and they recommended him to me. If you are somewhat local to Orlando I can get his info for you.

Next Saturday July 13th will be our Dunnellon TSC Farm Swap. Usually there are plenty of quail and quail eggs. I'll be there...

We advertise the start at 9:00 am but most of the people are there around 8 am.
