FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Help!!!need help sexing a 4-5 week old chick.Everything visibly says this chick is a hen. This chick came from a hatchery that is supposed to be able to sex chicks (although I am not so sure how good they are)My problem is the rest of the chicks;6 Cochin's,1 buff rock, and 1 sex link are all skittish and shy. This one isn't afraid of anything!Including my cattle dogs! It is super friendly, like pocket pet friendly. And its small vocabulary seems a bit different from the other birds. The seller said I could exchange it Monday afternoon if I wasn't satisfied.I CAN NOT have a rooster,I am within city limits and I am already WAY over the legal limit for number of birds.I have seen the section on BYC about sexing barred rocks and it seems to indicate this is a hen by its dark color. But would love any ones opinion!!!!

You can lay them on their back in the palm of your hand and if the legs stay down it's a female, If the legs come up then it's a male. I have tried this way of sexing birds but way someone has told me about. The picture that you have up I would say is a female .I would alomst bet on it. Quote:

My Heritage RIRs have just started laying. I got one pullet egg last week and one yesterday. I want them to get going and for the eggs to get larger so I can put some of the eggs in the incubator.

So happy here in Gainesville. My girls finally started laying! Nice firm shells and deep yellow yolks, yum!

Hi everyone! I am looking for some local-ish bantam eggs to set with my son's class... we like any breeds, but this time I was hoping to get some bantams as well. I can get LF locally... anyone know of someone selling bantam hatching eggs in or near volusia county? Or near Ocala? I don't like setting shipped eggs with the kids... hatch rates are too dicey. :/ PM me if you have any info! Thanks!!!
