Hello I'm Sandra originally from Germany now close to Jacksonville, FL for the last 10 years.
Hubby brought 11 "straight run" chicks home 3 Weeks ago. Now we have 9 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes - Hatched around April 3rd 2014, give & take a few days!!
We never had chickens before, but we own 2 Acres so lots of room. Our 2 Girls, 7 years and almost 4 years already enjoy the chickens and help with cleaning and of course loving on them when ever they can.
We are already thinking of German Girl Names for them

, but of course we have no idea what Gender they are at this point. And we can't wait for them to get older so we know, which they would be easier to identify.
This weekend hubby is finally starting to build a mobile coop and I am very excited about this new journey in our lives! I have searched a lot of stuff questions on here already, so I figured I'll join.
I'm already thankful for all the help and answers all you members will provide in the new future for my questions.

You are at the right site! I have been keeping our chickens 1 1/2 years now and this site is a wealth of information and tips pertinent to raising chickens in Florida. We started out with three hens, then added another and recently upped the count to 5. Hubby finally agrees we can have 6 when he builds a new coop.

Hello from Nassau County!!

That's awesome. My Hubby just used 5 boards to frame out the size of the Run and Coop, now I finally can see how big it's going to be, it's 10' x 16', so lots of room for out Chick Crew.

We can't wait to name them all, once we find out what they are!! One actually tried to crow this morning at 7 am, I think but we missed to see who it was.

My kids and I named our first three: Cinni-Minnie (New Hampshire Red), Miss Noel, and Violet Blaze ( tough name for a hen coming from a 10 year old boy). My husband named our Australorpe Moonshine (being a huge fan of the TV show). Now we have Nugget, and the most recent two: Barbie and Que. We were thinking about Drumstick for the next one...

Hi all,

I have a two week old chick that I noticed was staggering. I have no idea what her problem is and why she is so off balance. She eats and drinks well. My chicks were all vaccinated for Merak's, Newcastles, etc. at the hatchery before they were shipped. Any ideas?

Thanks for your input.
