FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Welcome! I used to live in your neck of the woods in Dunedin, but now we're up in "South Alabama" in the panhandle. Important things for Florida coops is plenty of shade and ventilation. I have a poop board/tray filled with "Sweet PDZ" (you can get it at Tractor Supply, it's mainly a horse stall freshener). The Sweet PDZ dries the poo up rapidly and really helps control fly population. I simply cover the fresh poo every morning using a cat litter scoop and then do a formal scoop and dump once or twice a week. The coop will smell good and the scooped poo is fine for composting with the Sweet PDZ on it. There's an entire thread on here about it...I found it most helpful.

Anyway, welcome and have great fun with your chickens!!

Hi my name is Mike and I live in Oldsmar,Fl. I just signed up today but have been learning on this site for about a month now. When I was younger we had chickens until the city banned "livestock". They have now eased there stance on chickens so I am going to be building a coop soon and purchasing some hens. So far I have to say this is an awesome site full of info. I love the coops section and i now know what I want to build.Anyway I'm on my lunch break but thought I would introduce myself at least to the other Floridians.
Welcome, Mike! As you can see from my quoting the person who posted after you, I am new here and can barely operated with all these 'buttons' and 'tabs'. LOL Some days.....

I live on the Pasco county side of Spring Hill, FL on a little more than an acre and zoned AR (agricultural). I just recently purchased this property just so I could have chickens without needing a permit or jumping through hoops to have a few fresh eggs daily. Great way to get the grandkids back to planting a garden, raising chickens, joining 4H, and getting them out from in front of the TV and video games. Well....there is still the Wii FIt....LOL
Me too. I live on the pasco side of spring hill!
