I don't know enough about ducks to tell you a favorite breed for meat, so whatever you advise. We will be either 7 or 9 if things go as planned. Thank you.

I introduced granddaughters to meat rabbit this summer, they love it. I wish I had to land to raise all the creatures you do. We bought that dream retirement land (5.5 acres) but now can't sell house for enough to build and relocate.

Rouens are HUGE (did you see our Pekin male?) they need a pool for bathing and a bucket of clean water for drinking. Drinking water needs to be deep enough they can get their entire head in It to clear the nares out. They are grazing/pooping machines and need lots of space since they need to graze on grass to be healthy and happy. All of our ducks get 2 small meals a day, once in the morning and right before they get put up for the night (older birds). The ducklings have food and water available 24/7.

They will quickly out grow a small tractor style house. Our Buff and Silver Appleyard ducklings are quickly outgrowing their grow out pen. Will be free ranging the, very soon. (once the storm passes).

Oh no.. the tractor would be for my couple of Silkies

I will be building/getting something to house the ducks in. YES.. they are messy messy little things..

I have read and been told Pekins are best for meat, easy to clean, nice taste and texture. We have a drake who is very spoiled and is great with new ducks. Keep an eye out for 1 or 2 pekins and I will do the same. I know many keep scovies for meat, but they fly and that is a negative in my book.

We are adding meat chickens also, so if you want any let us know. We are splitting 25 with my parents, but can add more if needed. Rabbit meat will be available in 2012. They are all available for you to get live and butcher yourself also if you want.

I hope the housing gets better so you can have your dream farm. I feel very lucky to have bought when we did.

LoL messy messy isn't the half of it. I am always SOOOOO happy when they move outside. Brooder cleaning 3/4 + times a day is no fun I tell ya, but I love our ducks and wouldn't trade them for anything. My new call hens sound like they are laughing at everyone, just love that loud quack/cackle.

Would love more Pekins. Hubby says he would take a full pasture of them. If they ha e eggs I would be interested. Yes Rouens are good meat ducks too.

When I lived in Pensacola was on a creek and had both a Peking and a French Mallard............they were so much fun but eventually the fox got them both. Had a muscovy as a child, loved that old duck who laid her eggs under the toilet than always leaked and I had to go after them. Duck eggs are soooooo good to cook with, makethe best cakes and egg salad to die for.

I have had thumb joint replacement surgery so cleaning and plucking is very hard for me, but so worth the effort. Best tasting chicken and dumplings.

How much are you going to be asking for rabbit meat?
