Pasture is so flooded that the Pyrenees swam to the back fence line today!:

We are knee deep in the yard near the fence, and our future goose house is flooded! Now to wait for the canals to drain so our property will too. Then we will be moving to goose house.

Carol, the older twins are laying, one is a medium size green/pale olive. The other is large and a pale green/blue.

Congrats On the NPIP.

Is anyone going to the Desoto County Beaks and Bills 4H Poultry Club's swap this Saturday, October 15th? The little bit of info I could find says it's the place for kids wanting to show to purchase their poultry...Personally, I'm just looking to add a few older pullets / young hens to my flock...wonder if they would sell to me?! Anyone know if outsiders who don't show their birds, but will give them great homes in a backyard flock (well 2 seperate flocks at 2 different houses...lol)? Otherwise, I won't waste my time driving 1.5 hours south of here...

The fire ants are BRUTAL!! All displaced by the flooding and can't step a foot outside without them swarming my feet.

Need to vent. We are hatching and building our Marans, Ameracuana stock for next year. We are also adding olive Eggers to go with those we have already. Most breeders are wonderful to chat with and get eggs from. Until this past weekend. I had contacted someone from here on BYc as I liked their egg color. Inquired about a few eggs from two breeds and waited to hear back via email. They let me know laying was very slow or none at all due to ti e of year/molting. Ok, I know many northern birds really start slowing down this time of the year. However they went on to tell me how horrible I am for wanting to create "ugly" olive egg laying mutt birds from her prized stock.

Was so not expecting that added response, and really turned me off to their birds and them.

Crossgirl: Yes the ants are very bad here too so I'll wait till the water is gone then get rid of them by pouring alittle gas on their mound then setting them on fire & that should do it till more come back.FLChickens that really was uncalled for by them cause who really cares how you want to breed as long as you get what you want.Me personally I would worry about the sell & not trying to tell people how to breed & how they should breed.
