What vitamins do you provide? In the water, I assume?

It doesn't get as hot here as FL but hot enough to have a case of heat stroke in one bird.
Now I give them all a dose of Sav-A-Chick once a week during the heat waves.
I only mix up a quart or half gallon.

You have been guven great advice i would definitely go with providing shade for them.
Between here in north florida, and southern Oklahoma we always have access to clean fresh water and lots of shade.
My mom still lives in the keys( wanna talk about hot and humid !!!) And she has 2 hens and they do just fine. LOTS OF SHADE water and ventilation.
Nice set up you have there.

remember.. we are in FL..
road side stands sell them dirt cheap. I pick up like twenty or so at a time. My pigs love half frozen watermelon too..
I know, when we go up to High Springs, we get HUGE watermelons for $1-$3 each. Great idea, will give it a shot this summer.

Quart or half gallon for how many birds? I have 7 in one coop that will go through almost 1/2 gallon a day. Maybe a half gallon once a week? Thanks!

Was thinking on this......probably did 1/2gal for maybe 20 birds.
I use a nipple waterer but when I dose them I put it in an open waterer and leave it out all day so even the subordinates get a drink.

It's a little bit higher than a foot, I'd say about 18 or 19 in. It is still a pain to get under there, however I can get under there when I have to I've done it a few times. If anything, I have a 4 year old that will get under there if need be. Not to retrieve a body, but everything else I'm sending him under there for.
Can't give advice on heat, since it's still below freezing up in Michigan. But I have to say your son is adorable with his friend on his lap!!!

I'm in southeast Texas where we have are fair share of Heat and humidity. My coop is under construction and I found a product that I used in a truck restoration project to block the heat. I'm coating the medal roof with a product called LizardSkin Ceramic Insulation it is water based insulation that reflects heat and it cut the heat in the truck by 20 to 25 degrees during the summer so i know it will work for this too.
